DESCRIPTION

Madhubani is a traditional Art that originates from the Madhubani district in the State of Bihar, India. It is said to have started 2500 years back and depicted at that time stories of Rama and Sita and various other Hindu Gods and Goddesses. This style of Art disappeared before being rediscovered and popularized in 1934. Modern Madhubhani Art is now painted on handmade and recycled paper and depicts also scenes from nature. Madhubani painting's beauty lies in the uniqueness and even exclusiveness from the fact that pencils and rubbers are not used in it, Created without using sketches or a rough outline which is generally done by artists in other forms of Art.

Meaning of this painting:

Peacocks have always been an extremely important motif in the Madhubani or Mithila school of art. These represent prosperity as they are generally seen during Monsoons which lead to a healthy harvest.
