Description
Adina cordifolia or turmeric, a large, unbranched deciduous tree, grows up to 18 meters in height, and is evenly distributed across India, from the sub-Himalayan region to the Eastern Ghats. The bark is light grey, about 1.8 cm thick, while the wood is light red inside with white stripes. The ovate leaves are 10–30 cm in diameter, and the flowers are yellow in globose heads. Adina cordifolia seeds are brown and turbinate, with a bifid wing at one end and a tail at the other. The tree is an important source of timber and its bark has medicinal properties.
