Ingredients
- Onion Seeds also known as Kalonjee, Black Caraway, Black cumin etc belongs to the same family of black cumin. It helps with cold, coughs. acts on diabetes and inflammation of the joints, indigestion, obesity etc.
- Second Ingredient is Fennel Seeds or Saunf . It is a common practice to eat fennel seeds at the end of every meal in most Indian households. We think we eat it to freshen the mouth, but Indian food always have some or the other benefit tied to it if used the right way. These seeds help in regulating Blood pressure, reduce water retention, indigestion, bloating, helps in purifying blood etc.
- Sesame Seeds or Til needs no introduction. They are tiny, oil-rich seeds that grow in pods. Sesame seeds helps to keep your bones stronger and is good for your skin and hair. One can just sprinkle this in most of your foods to enjoy the benefits.
- Coriander Seeds, coriander leaves and coriander species is again one of the most common ingredients in Indian cooking to flavour many dishes. Apart from its culinary uses it has various health benefits and may help in fighting infections and improve digestive health.
- One of the most common spices used worldwide is Black Pepper or Kali mirch. It has a sharp and mildly spicy flavour that goes well in many dishes. Due to its innumerous benefits, it is used in ancient Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years.
- Green Cardamom or Elaichi is a spice with an intense and a slight sweet flavour. It is used to flavour most of the sweet dishes in India. It is also a common spice in a lot of masala’s and savoury recipes. I call it as the Indian Vanilla.
- Desiccated Coconut is simply coconut meat (the white part) that has been grated and dried. Commonly used as a topping for curries, goes in a lot of Asian dishes, as an ingredient in baked dishes and goods etc.
- Ginger is a very common ingredient in India. My tea is incomplete without ginger. I have used Dry Ginger Powder or sonth in this recipe. Dry ginger powder adds flavour and aroma to foods as well one of the most widely used herbs in Ayurveda.
- Being a North Indian, Ghee or Clarified Butter is a must ingredient in my pantry. It is more concentrated in fat than butter as its water and milk solids have been removed. Apart from cooking, it’s again used as a medicine in Ayurveda. It helps you keep warm, a good source of energy and fats. Many a times combined with food or used as a topping to help absorb the nutrients from different foods.
- Almonds are packed with vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber. It is associated with a number of health benefits. I have used Almonds here as that is one of our favorited nuts, but one can use any nut or completely skip it if you need it nut free
