About the Art:
Beautiful Art over dried palm leaves stitched together. The palm leaves are cut off and left to dry to give the artist a hard surface to work on. Then these are sewn together to form like a canvas.
These amazingly beautiful intricacies are delicately done as one small move can destroy their entire creativity. The pattachitra art form is known for its intricate details as well as mythological narratives and folktales inscribed in it.
Pattachitra, meaning cloth-picture in Sanskrit, is a generalised term used to describe a style and format of painting with origins in Odisha. The centuries old tradition, has strong technical and stylistic similarities to the classical Indian wall murals and palm leaf manuscript illustrations. This art form is said to be originated during the world-famous Puri Rath Yatra. An array of small events marks the beginning of the festival. With time Pattachitra has transformed from paintings made with coarse lines to many more sophisticated style.
