Kantha the embroidery done on saree / dupatta or cloth is a craft characterised by the 'running stitch' is done by hand. The word originated from Sanskrit ‘kontha’ means 'rags.' It’s believed that Lord Buddha and his disciples used to cover themselves with discarded rags garments that were patched and sewn together. Rags in India is displayed at shrines and even tied to trees symbolise prayers and wards off the evil eye. Kantha date from the early 1800s and was done mainly in East Bengal present day West Bengal and Bihar
